Case study: instant-access high-speed broadband
In the competitive executive rental accommodation market, developers want to offer instant and fully-serviced entry when required. Unfortunately, national broadband service providers often quote extended installation lead-times which can be a major disincentive for prospective occupiers.
This was a particularly important consideration when a national housebuilder launched Scotland’s first large-scale build-to-rent scheme on the outskirts of Aberdeen in 2016.
Aimed at economically mobile professionals, the development consists of over 250 executive flat and townhouse properties, all with ready-installed high-speed (50Mbps) broadband connections.
To give new tenants instant access to broadband services, Aberdeen Technical Services designed and installed a flexible high-speed home broadband network based on a combination of fibre-optic, wifi and structured cabling.
This innovative solution brought internet services onto site and inter-linked the buildings via high-capacity fibre-optic cable. The data was distributed to the individual properties via Cat6 ethernet cabling, and then internally via wifi.
The managed broadband system is fully supported at every stage by Aberdeen Technical Services, and has greatly enhanced the marketability of the development.
