Plans to introduce a modern town centre CCTV system in Inverurie have taken another major step forward, with Scottish technology specialist Scot-Tech Fire and Security selected to deliver the system options following a competitive tender process.
Following an Invitation to Tender issued to six Scottish security and technology providers, Scot-Tech Fire and Security (STFS) were selected to outline tailored CCTV system options for consideration. STFS were previously identified as the preferred supplier in 2022 prior to funding being secured.
A detailed submission from Scot-Tech has now been reviewed by project leads. While overall equipment and installation costs have increased compared to 2022 estimates, reflecting broader market inflation over the past four years, the final figures remain comfortably within the overall project budget.
Following the initial submission, project leaders met with STFS to thoroughly evaluate the proposed options, weigh the benefits of each technical approach and select the optimal system before formally awarding the contract.
Alongside system selection, active work is underway across several critical delivery tracks:
- Location Mapping: Finalising precise camera placements across the town centre footprint.
- Property Permissions: Securing formal agreements from relevant building owners and occupiers.
- Planning & Statutory Consents: Identifying locations requiring mounting poles and initiating necessary planning applications.
- Power Infrastructure: Coordinating power connection requests and grid infrastructure requirements with Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN).
- Stakeholder Alignment: Re-engaging with Police Scotland to review and validate proposed coverage areas.
- Contract Finalisation: Completing final due diligence to enable formal contract sign-off.
Funded by developer obligation monies through Malcolm Allan Housebuilders – and spearheaded by We Are Inverurie Business Improvement District (BID) with support from Aberdeenshire Council – the CCTV system aims to improve public safety, deter anti-social behaviour and support the town’s night-time economy.
Derek Ritchie, Manager at Inverurie BID, said: “The CCTV project continues to move forward positively. Choosing STFS gives us a clear path toward selecting a system that fits Inverurie’s exact needs while staying within our budget. Subject to location approvals, utility connections and planning permissions, we are fully on track to move into the installation phase as soon as the final option is formally agreed.”
