IP CCTV

Case study: IP CCTV for security and health and safety

When a major international process management company opened its new £20 million state-of-the-art office and service centre in Aberdeen in 2015, it entrusted Aberdeen Technical Services to design and install a high-performance multi-camera IP (Internet Protocol) CCTV system.

The company wanted to deploy the system for both security and health and safety purposes, with both internal and external cameras integrated into its core national network for viewing access both locally and in its main UK facilities system in England.

We designed an integrated 30-camera system which covers all entrances and exits to the building and yard. This system provides not only high-level building security but also a visual audit of personnel evacuation in the event of an alarm.

The extensive stores, workshop and yard areas all feature moving plant, so further internal and external cameras were installed to monitor health and safety performance throughout the centre.

We used a combination of high-capacity fibre-optic and structured cabling to route video signals from all 30 cameras to the main communications room on site, where it is captured on three recorders. This integrated control console incorporates built-in redundancy to allow removal of any of the individual recorders for servicing or upgrading.

This well-planned commercial installation optimises the deployment of IPCCTV to simultaneously enhance plant security and view and record safe working practices throughout the 5,600sq.m facility.
